Points to consider when ordering an urn

We make a wide variety of urns from mini keepsake urns that hold a tablespoon of ashes to larger urns that can hold the ashes of an adult.  Some of the questions you need to answer in order to know what specifications you are looking for in an urn:

-Where is the urn going to be located and are there restrictions on the outside dimensions?

-What volume of ashes does the urn need to hold?  Is it a requirement that the urn hold all of the ashes?  Will you be dividing the ashes between two or more urns, or keeping some out to scatter?

-Do you need the urn in your hands right away or do you have time to wait for a custom urn to be made?

If the urn needs to hold all of the ashes, check with your funeral or cremation services provider regarding the volume of the urn you are looking for.  We don’t work really large and our urns tend to be on the smaller side so if you need a 14 cup urn we might not be the best provider for you.  We do occasionally have urns 10-12 cup volume in stock however the largest volume of urn that Nicole accepts for special order is 9-10 cups.

Special order urns:  Our urns are handmade and not all of the dimensions can be measured until the piece has cooled.  If you need the outside dimensions to be within a specific limit, say, to fit in a columbarium niche, then we will make the urn to be within those dimensions but cannot guarantee the final volume.  If you need the volume to be a minimum of, say, 8 cups, we will make the urn to be at least 8 cups but it might be larger, and the outside dimensions cannot be guaranteed.

If both outside and volume dimensions are important requirements we advise you shop within our current stock.

It takes time to do the job right.  Please allow a minimum of 8 weeks for your custom urn order (occasionally it may take longer, we can give you an estimation when you place your order).  If you need the urn in your hands right away as is sometimes the case, we do have a variety of beautiful and unique urns in stock.

Please note most of the urns we have listed on our website are not kept at the studio so if you would like to come to the studio to see one in person please contact us at least a couple days ahead of your planned visit so that we can make sure we have the urn(s) that you want to look at on hand for you.

Closing the permanent seal urn: The urns we make are designed to be closed permanently with a fine bead of silicone.  Squeeze a fine bead of silicone around the lid where it touches the shoulder of the urn and then place the lid in position.  Clean up any blobs of silicone.  Allow to set up for 2 hours before moving and the silicone will be completely set up in two weeks.  We are happy to fill and seal your urn for you, please contact us to book an appointment.  If you live farther away and need help, your funeral services provider or crematory can help you with this. The lids for these urns can also be temporarily secured with putty.
