In The Artist Spotlight, July 2016, Barbara Rumberger

In August 2015 I had the opportunity to attend a residency at Northlands Glass located on the northern tip of Scotland, in an isolated fishing village in Caithness. The road trip that followed took me to both Orkney and the Isle of Skye. The history of the country was timeless as the past continues to haunt the landscape. I am still absorbing much of what I saw and heard but felt it was time to at least start trying to sort through the memory of my experience, starting As I reflected on my own transition, one year ago, these vessels and poems developed…

Reflections of the sky meeting the sea on the horizon
Blue touching blue
Sometimes calm, sometimes stormy
Always reflecting each other’s mood

Transitions of the landscape, from lowlands to highlands
Flowing green fields to craggy green cliffs,
With heather on the emerald hillside, like amethyst and amber jewels
So many textures and shades of green, blending
Transitioning into each other
